Galerie Friese was founded in Stuttgart in 2008 as a direct successor to manus presse, which has existed since 1961. In spring 2015, the gallery moved to Berlin to a Wilhelminian-style building on Fasanenplatz, located in the former West Berlin gallery district.
The gallery program ranges from classical modernism to young contemporary artists. The estates we represent include art-historically significant positions such as Willi Baumeister, Norbert Kricke, Dieter Krieg, Georg Karl Pfahler and Walter Stöhrer. We represent contemporary positions such as Franziska Holstein, Karin Kneffel, Thomas Müller, Claire de Santa Coloma and Cornelius Völker.
Through our pronounced mediation program, the gallery functions as a true place of cultural exchange. Our cross-epochal orientation, which also focuses on painting and drawing, offers a wide range of points of contact for highlighting and communicating the historical developments, themes and techniques specific to these media. As part of our extensive publication activities, public events and exhibitions, different generations and individual artistic styles are regularly brought into a dialog.
Extending these questions to interdisciplinary areas, we presented non-commercial exhibitions of the religious philosopher Klaus Heinrich and the Nobel Prize winner for literature Peter Handke, whose graphic works were made accessible to the public for the first time.
