KARIN KNEFFEL
Karin Kneffel (1957*) studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and was master student with Gerhard Richter. For several years she has been working on Mies van der Rohe’s buildings, especially the Lange and Esters houses in Krefeld, reconstructing the interiors and art collections of their former owners in her highly complex compositions. Thus, these images about images reflect foundational themes of painting: its illusionism, its planarity, its materiality as objects and its dependence on the context, in which they are received.
From 2000-2008 Karin Kneffel taught at the Hochschule für Künste, Bremen. Since 2008 she holds a professorship at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich. In 2019, solo exhibitions in the Museum Frieder Burda and the Kunsthalle Bremen were dedicated to her.
