Robert Schad
29.06. – 31.08.2024
„The important thing is the abstract linear movement.’’ (Robert Schad)
We are pleased to present the work of Robert Schad (*1953) after many years of co-operation in Stuttgart nun erstmalig in der Galerie Friese in Berlin auszustellen.
Schad's works combine two forms of design: Drawing and sculpture. The drawings are an elementary expression of the artist's thoughts, ideas and abstraction. At the centre of the work is the line - as man's original form of expression to abstract nature and connect it with human existence. His sculptures embody the movement from the drawings as a sculptural line in space and make it tangible. Schad also conceptualises this dynamic as a force in the social and cultural space that his sculptures occupy.
This interplay between the equal media of drawing and sculpture characterises Schad's work in a unique way. The sculptures are choreographies that have become material and are based on drawing, inviting the viewer to physically perceive other perspectives and the space. The inertia and dynamism of the material, moments of balance and imbalance invite the viewer to encounter feelings of heaviness and lightness.
Schad removes the objective functionality from steel as a building material and gives it a soul by creating a new constructive character. His sculptural language is an ode to nature and its unpredictable and mysterious movements.
