VIA LEWANDOWSKY
Via Lewandowsky (*1963) studied scenography at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Dresden from 1982-87, where he clashed with the cultural functionaries there, due to his attitudes and actions critical of socialism. In consequence of this criticism of the GDR's art scene, the artist fled to the West in 1989.
Lewandowsky's leitmotifs in art are misunderstanding as a consequence of the failure of communication and the processual. His works represent tragedy as well as comedy and have been in demand internationally at least since his participation in documenta 9 in 1992.
